Over the past few months, villagers in North Rode have been collecting plastic bottles to make into colourful bright red poppies, in remembrance of those that have fallen in service of our country.
There is no war memorial in the village, as technically North Rode is a ‘Thankful Village’. North Rode was and still is a farming community and farming was a reserved occupation during WW1 and WW2 so consequently not as affected as other villages. Whilst there were some serving soldiers living in the village in the both world wars, all luckily survived. There were in fact six death connected with the village in the first world war, however they had moved away before the war.
A poppy making workshop was organised by the North Rode Parish Council and over 250 Poppies were made by a team of villagers and these are now displayed around Daintry Hall, the Church and at numerous other locations around the parish for all to see as they pass through.
